This morning I literally woke up1 with a medley in my head. It took me a while to identify the two pieces of music and why I've linked them in my mind.
The first is Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up" from the album Closer. I linked to the AllMusic page for the album for a reason which I'll get to momentarily. :)
The second song took longer to find, but I finally realized it was definitely Enya. Great. I have six Enya albums. The problem with Enya is that...often the songs are in Gaelic or Latin or some other language, and it's hard to remember which of them is what song. An Enya song isn't immediately recognizable as an Enya song because she feels the need to say her name 1000 times2, but because they have a signature sound and what some people would categorize as an annoying "sameness." Whatever. I had to listen to the opening strains of a good number of her songs before I identified #2 as her "How Can I Keep From Singing" from the album Shepherd Moons.
Usually, there is a very specific—although often hard to find—reason that my overactive pattern matcher has linked songs. And these two are no exception. I figured it out when I read the description of the Groban song:
Of course, the more blindingly obvious connection is that both songs are hymnal. You can practically smell the blue stuff in the white hair of the little old lady playing organ in the church where the songs are being sung by a choir.
Oh, great. Now Mel Tormé's "The Christmas Song" is trying to encroach. All because of "sung by a choir."
I hate my pattern matcher, sometimes.

[T]he Celtic-infused bombast of Secret Garden's "You Raise Me Up" plays like...Hmm. "Celtic-infused," is it? :)
