Matt desperately needs me to spend some time with him. He craves the attention. Loves to be petted. Drools when petted.

And yet, he remains terrified of me in certain respects. If I'm not sitting down, I'm an evil, cat-eating, giant...evil thing that eats cats. If I am sitting down, it's all "LOVE ME!" as he basically forces me to pet him by smashing his head into my hand. And he's gotten to where he'll climb (not jump, but climb) up into The Chair *evil chord* with me as long as I don't make any sudden moves.1

And then there's when I'm in my home office, as I am when I type this or as I was last night when The Yowling™ started.

See, he needs and craves that human contact...but my bedroom and office aren't "safe." There are no escape routes. If I were to (Bast forfend!) get between him and the door...well, I might eat him. Evilly. And gigantically. Or something.

So he sits just out of view in the hallway outside my bedroom door. He knows I'm in the office (which opens directly off my bedroom). And no matter how much I call him, cajole him, or beg him, he won't come in except for brief stints, and then if I look at him, he panics and flees in terror.

So he sits out there in the hall and yowls.

It's just pathetic. Poor thing. He's lost everything he knows and even though he's terrified of me, he needs something from me. Well, other than just my thumbs. :)

Meanwhile, Lucy looks on to the whole thing and the expression of her body language is something to the effect of "Dude. Get over it already. More petting for me." :)

  1. As an aside, we think maybe he doesn't see or possibly hear well. Which might contribute to a lot of his behavior.
