It's a sign that you're getting old(er) when not only do the "kids these days" look at you blankly when you mention names of music greats of the past, but when you hear their songs, the singer now sounds like a bad impersonation of themself.

Discuss.

Observation #2: "themself" just sounds awkward, no matter how you slice it.

Sometime around my 30th birthday, when I had already gotten flabby and my hair was noticeably thinning, I sat down at a cafe with a friend of a similar age and appearance. Two tables away sat a group of girls, totally smokin' hot but also obviously barely-18 college freshmen.

My friend looked at me, sighed, and said "You know, if we worked out and got totally ripped, there is still no way those girls would see us as anything other than a couple of creepy older guys."
