As if the dream last night weren't awful enough, I've had a song in my head since I woke up. I have no idea where it came from or how it got there, but it's driving me nuts already, and it's only 11:33 AM.

The song? You want to know the song? Are you sure? Because I'm warnin' you...it's pure, unadulterated, raw evil.

[Edit: For those that don't know, the song is "The Lonely Goatherd" from The Sound of Music.]

[Maria:]
High on a hill was a lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Loud was the voice of the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

Folks in a town that was quite remote heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Lusty and clear from the goatherd's throat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

[the Children:]
O ho lay dee odl lee o, o ho lay dee odl ay
O ho lay dee odl lee o, lay dee odl lee o lay

[Maria:]
A prince on the bridge of a castle moat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
[Kurt:]
Men on a road with a load to tote heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

[the Children:]
Men in the midst of a table d'hote heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
[Maria:]
Men drinking beer with the foam afloat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

One little girl in a pale pink coat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
[Brigitta:]
She yodeled back to the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

[Maria:]
Soon her Mama with a gleaming gloat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
What a duet for a girl and goatherd
Maria and the Children:
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

[Maria and the Children:]
Ummm (ummm) . . .
Odl lay ee (odl lay ee)
Odl lay hee hee (odl lay hee hee)
Odl lay ee . . .
. . . yodeling . . .

[Child:]
One little girl in a pale pink coat heard
[Maria:]
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hoo hoo
[Child:]
She yodeled back to the lonely goatherd
[Maria:]
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

[Maria:]
Soon her Mama with a gleaming gloat heard
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hmm hmm
What a duet for a girl and goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

[Maria and the Children:]
Happy are they lay dee olay dee lee o . . .
. . . yodeling . . .
Soon the duet will become a trio
[Maria:]
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

[Maria and the Children:]
Odl lay ee, old lay ee
Odl lay hee hee, odl lay ee
Odl lay odl lay, odl lay odl lee, odl lay odl lee
Odl lay odl lay odl lay

[the Children:]
HOO!

First the sheep, now a goatherd...I think my brain's obsessed with livestock.

The horror.

STOP THE INSANITY! <sobbing> Make it stop!

I feel your pain. I've had "Melissa the Magnificent Moose" stuck in my head:

Melissa, the magnificent moose,
The most marvelous moose the world has ever produced!
She led the settlers through the cold,
She's the moose brave and bold,
Melissa, the magnificent moose!

And it's sung by a woman with a thick Minnesota accent, doncha know?

Clearly, you should have lamb for dinner. :D

Maybe killing a lamb will kill the urge to yodel? :D

I don't recognize the song, but I'm suddenly craving hot chocolate.

If it's any help, I usually sing it "High on a hill lay a lonely goat turd..."

this doesn't bother me in the bit. I love Sound of Music.

What does bother me is listening to the radio and Gwen Stefani comes on with her "if I were a rich girl"

I then start singing from The Fiddler on the Roof.

This is why I never ever let my child watch musicals. I don't want her to be scarred for like like you.

:)
