Reason for stopping: Ran into a snag where I'm going to have to backfill some stuff.

Notes:

1. New title!


2. More death! More mayhem! More fires! Explosions! Screaming! And in a hospital ICU!


3. I should have enough written by the end of October that I can still participate in my Tuesday night writing group all four Tuesdays and not lose any NaNoWriMo time.


4. I've just severely injured one of the main characters. To the point where he is effectively now going to be out of play for a while, and possibly a target for being body #8. That is not where I was expecting this to go. Must rethink. :)

2. This is a society that is somewhat comfortable with and uses some magic, yes? You could engage in a fun worldbuilding exercise and set things up for future stories in the same setting if you add some detail on the hospital. What spells they use, what solutions are better solved with technology vs. where magic works best, etc. (For instance, would a magic-using society really want to keep large tanks of gases that could fuel or accelerate fire?) Just to add some color and burnish to the background.

4. Two words come to mind: "Rear Window."

As for #2, that is exactly what I intend to do with the scene of the aftermath in the ICU. And possibly in the...aforemath. :)

I've been doing that along the way. Little things like spells on safes to make them less break-into-able, pacification spells in the prison, etc.

And "Rear Window" is one of my favorite movies of all time. But with this particular bad guy, either Grace Kelley or Thelma Ritter could just as well be the killer. :)
