I'm charting my daily progress on NaNoWriMo. Since you may or may not care, I'll kindly hide it behind a cut. Thanks for taking the time. :)

Notes:
  • I finally finished one in a day, which is what I was intending for all of them. Let's hope that Day 3 starts a trend that holds up through Day 26.

  • "C Is for Clowns (that Creep Through the Yard)" was the very first story idea I wrote down when I came up with the idea for this whole enterprise. Well, at least the first one for which I had an entire story idea.

  • Back in April or May of 2010—I can't remember which—my Second Life writing group The Quillians got together one night for the express purpose of doing a world-building exercise. We were then each supposed to write a 1000-word story using that world. The three prompts we were given to get the ball rolling were
    • A convention on an island
    • A suicide
    • A resurrection
We batted around ideas for more than an hour, and whenever someone came up with something the rest liked, we ran with that. Eventually, it became a clown convention with some other stuff added which I won't go into because it would spoil the story. :) I ended up not submitting a story in that world because literally nothing would come to mind. Flash forward a year and three months. Boom. A fully-formed story idea pops into my head. I didn't even know I remembered that world-building exercise, much less intended to actually write something in it. Well, this is that story.

  • I sat down to write this thinking the story was going to flow one way—kinda dark, but with a traditional 'happy ending.' But from the very first sentence, realized it needed to go in an altogether darker direction.

  • After I finished this one, I went back and fleshed out a little more on Anchor and Bard. Got them both to the next logical scene end and made notes where they're headed.

  • Oh, and bonus! I got the idea that partially coalesced what the story is and where it starts for W Is for Witness. At least I now know at what point to start the story (already in progress).

  • Character names: Clarence (the main character), Chuck (his step-father, who is a clown), Carol (his mother, who is a clown fanatic), Dad (who never got an actual name)

  • Interesting things I had to look up: US Marine recruitment and training, C4 explosives, detonating same, Bimini Island, resort hotels on same, famous clowns in history.

  • Genre: Horror

This table shows each story and how many words I have written on it, regardless of the daily count. Titles or letters in red ("tomato") are ones where I'm not sure, yet, what the story will be.
