I'm charting my daily progress on NaNoWriMo. Since you may or may not care, I'll kindly hide it behind a cut. Thanks for taking the time. :)

Notes:
  • Today is a perfect example of why writing is so hard when people are around. I didn't get a single word written until late afternoon because I had no real time away to write until then, and by then I was hooked on a TV show that we were watching a marathon of. Who knew "Kitchen: Impossible" was so engrossing?

  • My mother put "Yesterday" in my head, and I knew that was the word I wanted to use, but I couldn't think of a story. The song kept going through my head. "Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away. Now, it looks as though they're here to stay. Oh, I believe in yesterday. Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be. There's a shadow hanging over me. Oh, yesterday came suddenly." Something in that sparked the first line that I ended up keeping: "Yesterday, everything changed." But that's all I had.

  • "Y Is for Yesterday" is incomplete at 2042 words. I'm not sure how long it'll be actually, because I don't really have an ending. Just a vague idea inspired by the song and by Dean Koontz's book Taken.

  • Finally, it came to me. It's a first-person narrative in the same vein as a zombie story (see tomorrow), but told by the person who has lived through . . . whatever it was. He's telling about what happened . . . "Yesterday." What that thing was . . . could be interpreted a couple of ways: beings from another, fantasy dimension . . . or aliens. I haven't made up my mind, yet. :)

  • Character names: A bunch of first names because they're co-workers in a crowded office building who must band together and survive in the aftermath of . . . this thing. The narrator is named Yosef.

  • Interesting things I had to look up: Lyrics of the song, male names beginning with 'y.' :)

  • Genre: Science Fiction. Or possibly {Urban | Dark} Fantasy. Maybe.

This table shows each story and how many words I have written on it, regardless of the daily count. Titles or letters in red ("tomato") are ones where I'm not sure, yet, what the story will be.
